June UFO Sightings in the Workshop

Once again, my conviction to only write detailed articles about projects has meant that I'm aaaalmost done writing six or seven things but nowhere near ready to publish any of them.  So, to hopefully keep folks interested (and make up for my lack of posts recently) here's a rundown of UFOs (UnFinished Objects) making their way around the workshop lately.

For starters, back when the local stay at home orders were beginning, I decided I needed me a quarantine project.  So I took a quick look at my goofy project bucket list, thought about which of my machines needed exercise, and settled on printing a lifesize rendition of the BFG9000 from the DOOM video games:
BFG9000 WIP Front

This beast is huge.  I didn't track all of the hours that went into printing the various components, but it was a lot.  Then I've spent slightly more hours sanding and prepping the parts for paint.  Now I have most of it in primer awaiting the luxury time I'll need to wire up all of the lights:

Then all I have to do is decide how much of this stuff I want to animate to match the in-game movements:

Once I was done printing BFG parts, I was on a roll turning game assets into printable models.  Since I was already on the subject of ridiculous video game weapons, I started printing out the Hydra MLRS from HALO 5:

And then the M6H2 magnum pistol as well:

The Magnum will be fitted with a video camera and a wireless transmitter.  None of that makes sense just yet, but it will when I make more progress on my other ridiculous HALO-related project, the Locus helmet:
Look at these sexy bitches!

The plan is to make the complete Locus costume from the popular web series Red vs. Blue.  The rest of the armor has been started, but there's a ways to go just yet:Locus Back Armor

On a somewhat unrelated note, I've started building the costume for the Second Sister from Jedi: Fallen Order.  So far I've molded the helmet:

The rest of the hard parts are in progress, but they've been overshadowed a bit by my progress on the Armorer from the Mandalorian:

Those are my copies of the chest and back armor nearing completion.  I'm also working on a few copies of her hammer:
Primed Hammers

Once those are done, I'll be able to shift focus back to her leather parts:
Soft Parts Test

While all of that is going on, I've started a collaboration with my friend Jon Jones, a talented maker who's been working on a complete T-800 Terminator endoskeleton.  He's 3D printed most of the parts and done most of the prep work.  For my part, I'll be molding them and casting them in more durable material.  Here's how they look now:
Endoskeleton Parts Batch One

On the subject of molding, I've finally gotten around to molding the next Combat Garden Gnome.  This one is firing an M60 machine gun from the hip like Rambo:
Say hello to my little friend!
I still need to finish the sculpt for his left hand and mold it (and the gun) so I can start finishing a few of these guys and get them listed in my Etsy shop.

There's more going on, of course, but it's time for me to stop writing and get back to making stuffs.

Stay tuned.  I'll finish something sooner or later...

  1. I notice that you make multiple copies of everything. Do you sell some of your extras or do you keep them for friends? I'm not angling for anything, just curious.
Btw I tried the Etsy link and it didn't connect. Could be a problem on my part, but thought you should know.

  2. Sometimes I sell pieces, sometimes I trade with other makers. Sometimes it's just to hook up my friends.

Fixed the Etsy link. Thank you for the heads-up.
