UPDATE: MARPAT Desert Camo HALO Helmet

In case anyone remembered my last post about this paintjob and was waiting for it, my sister has received her MkVI helmet intact.  Here she is trying it on:



She asked me, "Does this helmet make me look fat?"


Then she wandered down to the armory on base and borrowed a machine gun for some more pics:




The colors were not a bad match. More angles:


 

On closer inspection, I should've added a lot more of the darker shades of tan.  Plus, with the different sheen of the plastic helmet against the fabric of her uniform, the helmet looks a bit too bright when photographed with a flash:
 

Still, I'm pretty damned proud of this one.

My HALOween Project is Finally Finished

Not long after Halloween 2007, I was sitting around with a group of friends and having a drink when the question came up, "what should we do for Halloween next year?"

Of all the ideas that came up, the one that struck a chord with me was the idea of building a suit of Halo armor, making a mold, casting a few copies, painting them different colors, and going out dressed as the characters from Red vs. Blue.

Fast forward three years, two ships, and one war and who knows how much money and I finally managed to get it done.

Unseaworthy Vessel of the Week: Love-Love the Forever Sinking Sailboat

Believe it or not, this boat is sitting in perfect trim on an even keel.


Her name is "Love-Love" and she was built by an artist named Julien Berthier.  Here's what she looks like out of the water:

All I keep thinking is that this guy must do nothing but apologize to rescue agencies wherever he goes.

"No I'm not in distress.  Yes the boat is supposed to look like this.  It's intended as a statement of the decomposition of..." 

While I feel bad for whatever Coast Guard has to deal with this guy, I feel worse for his neighbors in the marina:
